She has worked for several agencies in and around London including over two years of voluntary counselling work with NHS patients in the IAPT service of a GP surgery. She continues to consult with private clients in West and South-West London.
Her therapeutic approach is relational, holistic and trauma-aware. She includes psychodynamic and Jungian depth work, cognitive work, and creative techniques, as appropriate for each individual. As a trauma specialist, she keeps up-to-date with the latest developments in working with psychological trauma. Being person-centred, she is respectful and empathetic of the client’s worldview and spiritual interests. Creating the safe and comfortable space that facilitates a person in addressing whatever it is that’s brought them to therapy is so important. Karen abides by the codes of conduct and ethical practice of BACP, UKCP, and the EMDR Association UK & Ireland.
Karen specialises in working with the many manifestations of stress and psychological trauma. These include post-traumatic stress disorder from single event traumas, complex trauma, and developmental trauma. It may also include things like depression and anxiety, somatisation and medically unexplained symptoms (MUS), eating disorders, relationship issues, and crisis intervention. In particular, she has wide experience of working with the kind of complex trauma that can result from neglect and abuse in childhood or adulthood. Karen also works one-to-one and with groups to facilitate self-development and personal growth from a transpersonal perspective.
